community involvement committee taking shape

One of the first important deadlines is facing us...organizing the Community Involvement Committee. This committee is one of the "big ideas" in our Strategic Plan since these individuals will take the lead on the Town Learning Community discussion.

The work of this committee is to "connect" with others in the town and "network" with adults in Cumberland who can support learning for our students. Is it a big responsibility...yes! Is this a chance to create a new framework for the way in which we view the education of students in the Cumberland schools...absolutely!

You already know the folks who should be on this inaugural committee since we live with them and work with them. They stand out because they have a natural ability to collaborate with others and a unique skill to draw people toward them. Perhaps it's their enthusiasm or ability to relate to others or a confidence that this person can get the job done!

Please think about the friends, neighbors, teachers and other professionals that you know who fit this description. Then it's simple...all you need to do to nominate an individual for consideration for the Community Involvement Committee is email his/her name to donna.morelle@cumberlandschools.org.

Don't delay! Our first meeting of this committee will be in early December.

Thanks for the quick response and great list of early recommendations. I knew I could count on you to respond to this request.

Just so you know, I'll also be sending the request for nominations to a variety of other groups including our Leadership Team; District Information Conference; Town Council and School Committee.

If you have any other suggestions for seeking nominations, please let me know.

Hi Donna,

What is the District Information Conference? How about the mayor and other local elected officials serving at the State level?

Great news!! We have had over 50 nominations for this committee thanks to everyone's quick response to my emails. What a network to kick off our work on the Town Learning Community!

You asked about the District Information Conference...it's a posting in our First Class internal communication system.

Building on some of the ideas and feedback we've received from all of you, the Community Involvement Committee is taking a little detour before its first meeting. If you noticed the Message Board, it says that a letter and interest survey will be sent to every individual who is nominated.

Once we realized that we had an avalanche of responses to our request for people in the community who can "network" and "connect", we had an ah-ha moment when we realized we had a golden opportunity to build on this momentum. Collaboration Matters!
